Да, дворец несоизмерим с загородными и городскими резиденциями потомков Петра. Вот где роскошь, бьющая через край, огромные площади жилых помещений, сверхбогатая отделка интерьеров…
Удачно мы съездили после Санкт-Петербурга в Амстердам. Отсюда тянутся корни административных и технологических новаций, а также архитектурных пристрастий Питера.
И мы увидели это своими глазами, почувствовали в ветре, могущим быть ураганным, услышали это в грохоте механизмов ветряных мельниц…
Серьезные государственные амбиции, бурное развитие производства, активный образ жизни, витающие в воздухе свободы, открытость окружающему миру, безудержность в человеческих проявлениях…
всё это, подсмотренное государем русским в тогдашней Голландии, легло на подготовленную изначально почву:
страстных и неудержимых стремлений к переменам,
неистовых и яростных попыток избавиться в способах ведения дел государственных от руководства интересами исключительно властных боярских кланов в пользу целей укрепления и усиления государства российского с точки зрения создания, как военных мощностей, так и основ для внутриэкономической деятельности…
Хотелось бы, как лучше,.. а получилось, как всегда?..
Поэтому, скорее всего, Летний дворец и вышел таким похожим на голландский дом. Видимо, архитектор Трезини (автор проекта дворца) почувствовал, что может понравиться Петру: строгость, минимализм, надежность, функциональность.
Пожалуй, из всех ранних петровских построек, которые мы видели, только еще Монплезир (павильон в Петергофе) так определенно рассказывает о личных вкусах государя.
Но живее всего ощущаешь его характер и пристрастия в Летнем дворце. Всё особенное, петровское, всё хорошее и дурное, всё, что так глубоко повлияло на жизнь страны, оставило здесь неизгладимый след.
В Летнем дворце понимаешь, с одной стороны, прозападную прогрессивность, рациональность и технологичность, а, с другой стороны, русский дух, масштаб, широту, вседержавность и необузданность нашего прорубателя окна в Европу.
Это – знатный плотник, охотник потокарничать, мастер корабельного дела, завороженный Голландией – шумом работы на верфях, четкостью и строгостью Амстердама, ритмом многочисленных каналов, парусами, морем.
Но это и – император российский, побывавший не только в Амстердаме, но и в Лондоне, Вене, в прусском Кенигсберге, всевластный и неистовый, презирающий роскошь и не могущий без нее обойтись, любитель щей да каши, издевавшийся прилюдно над провинившимися слугами и боярами, например, заставляя знатных подданных встать в шеренгу, снять штаны и нагнуться, и с разбегу швыряя в этот ряд тяжелым мячом – уж, в кого попадет…
Возле дворца была небольшая гавань (гаванец), позволяющая подплывать ко входу во дворец прямо на лодке;
во дворце дубовые темные панели, как в зажиточных голландских домах, и расчерченные квадратами окна;
голландские изразцы и декоративные керамические тарелки – кобальт на белом;
обтянутые парусиной стены небольшого кабинета;
голландские картины, большинство в темных матовых рамах – бытовые сцены, зачастую серое небо, облака, море, корабли;
сосновый крашеный шкаф для содержания одежды и других хозяйственных вещей, впервые появившийся в России – до этого вещи хранили в сундуках;
кухня с очагом и водопроводом на амстердамский манер;
книги на столе и в дубовом, гамбургской работы шкафу;
«ветровой прибор» из Дрездена, и сегодня показывающий время, направление, скорость ветра…
Ранее в кабинете Петра I размещались еще и его токарные станки, ныне хранящиеся в Государственном Эрмитаже .
На филенке двери, ведущей в спальню – изображение Голгофы (предположительно работы Петра I).
Летний дворец, действительно, – это как дом бывалого голландского шкипера, где хозяин деятельный, состоятельный, предприимчивый, но увлекающийся и «со странностями»…

Therefore, most likely, the Summer Palace came out partly similar to a Dutch house. Apparently, the architect Trezzini (the author of the palace project) knew what Peter might like.
Perhaps, of all the early Peter’s buildings that we saw, only Monplaisir (the pavilion at Peterhof) speaks so definitely about Peter’s personal tastes.
But most of all you feel his character and preferences in the Summer Palace. Everything special, Petrovsky, everything good and bad, everything that so deeply influenced the life of the country, left an indelible mark here.
In the Summer Palace, you understand, on the one hand, pro-Western progressiveness, rationality and technological effectiveness, and, on the other hand, the Russian spirit, scale, breadth, omnipresence and rampantness of our window-cutter to Europe.
This is a noble carpenter, a hunter to prank, a master of shipbuilding, fascinated by Holland — the noise of work in shipyards, the clarity and rigor of Amsterdam, the rhythm of numerous channels, sails, the sea.

Near the palace there was a small harbor (Havanese), allowing you to swim to the palace entrance directly on the boat;
in the palace there are dark oak panels, as in wealthy Dutch houses, and square-shaped windows;
